The art of the Boudoir photo

The connection between lingerie and boudoir.
It’s no secret we are inspired by boudoir. We can imagine each of our designs on someone posing for the elegant art form.
Our founder first fell in love with lingerie through posing for boudoir photos. Seeking her place in NYC and wanting to build confidence she began posing for pin up photographers and gradually began to gravitate toward the style of boudoir. The act of loving your body in a piece of lingerie is powerful, seeing yourself in that lingerie through the lens of a boudoir photographer takes that feeling to a new level.
Boudoir is inherently sensual and intimate but the photos are not necessarily for someone else’s eyes. This goes for lingerie as well, sometimes only you know what you’ve got underneath it all. Pin Up and boudoir photography is not a new concept, you can find fabulous images of people striking a pose in all sorts of undergarments as far back as the 1940’s when Bettie Page was all the rage. Though photography has evolved and the lingerie industry has grown exponentially, the idea of boudoir has remained the same. A chance to feel playful and beautiful in your own unique way, dressed in your favorite lingerie with a photographer you trust.
Boudoir as a form of self care.
Self care can mean a lot of things, and maybe lingerie or boudoir doesn’t seem like it should be at the top of your list. But, we beg to differ.
Buying lingerie is personal, we are embracing ourselves in a vulnerable image. The only things between us and our body is some delicate lace, beautiful silk or sheer fabric. We choose lingerie that we feel good in, that we love the way we look in. Boudoir is about capturing that feeling. Allowing yourself to release any hesitations and enjoy the moment, embrace your power, your femininity and all that makes you who you are.
Lingerie is for everyone and boudoir should be too. Maybe you’ve never been in front of the camera or you don’t know how to pose or what to wear. But with the right wardrobe and the right photographer, these worries will naturally fall away allowing for a new experience that is likely to change your image of yourself forever.
Choosing your boudoir lingerie and how to pose.
Ultimately we all gravitate towards different looks for our boudoir shoot. Some of us will go classic, channeling the Old Hollywood vixens of the past. Others will be more provocative, opting for more risqué, modern styles. Or you may want to be more subtle, high waist lace panties paired with a white button up top. The possibilities are endless and there is no right choice, only what you know will make you channel your most glamorous self.
Everything about boudoir is art. From the setting, to the photographer's eye, to you. Just like choosing your lingerie, there is no one way to pose. You know yourself best, lean into your favorite angles of your body, your preferred side of your face, your go to facial expressions. But, don’t be afraid to explore and work together with your photographer. Sometimes poses or faces that feel awkward in the moment come out gorgeous in a photograph. Trust the process, indulge in the unknown and most of all enjoy yourself. You won’t regret years from now having boudoir photos to look back on, and we hope you'll never stop celebrating yourself through lingerie and boudoir.
